It’s been a while since I’ve blogged anything but hey, sometimes life gets in the way. I have been busy and I have also moved to the other side of the country. We are now in beautiful British Columbia! Sicamous to be exact and it really is beautiful here! Gorgeous mountain air. Scenery to die for. Albeit, it’s still a little chilly in the evenings. We notice it more because we are living in our RV. No matter, we are as happy as can be.
As a result of chilly evenings, we often build fires to entertain ourselves and also to cook on. When it’s this early in the season there are typically no fire bans. So, we try to take advantage of that fact and there is nothing like a steak and some roasted veggies in a packet to set you right.

As you can see, we’ve got carrots, potatoes, asparagus, onions, garlic, and lots of thyme. All I did was chop them into chunks and season with olive oil, salt, and pepper and Bobs your uncle. I wrapped the veggies up in parchment paper first, then in aluminum foil to make a packet to put on the fire. It only takes about a half an hour or so and they’re done.
The trick is with the fire 🔥! First you want to build up the fire until you have a good amount of wood burning. Then, you want to let it die down. When it gets to the point where the fire has simmered down but you have some lovely hot coals. That’s when you want to start cooking. We have what they call a Tuscan grill, which is perfect for this application and for wood burning ovens.
Cooking the steak on the fire is not really all that different from cooking on a barbecue. Season your steak how you like and go for it. On my steak 🥩, I like to put seasoning salt, black pepper, onion powder, fresh garlic, and fresh basil. Yummy 🤤.
Enjoy with a nice bottle of red wine 🍷 Something big and bold like a Cabernet Sauvignon or a Shiraz.
Remember to cook with love in your heart- the food will taste better ❤️
